Originally born in a French territory in the West Indies. Fanon was always sympathic to liberation causes around the world, fighting in the WWII on the side of the free french at just the age of 18 and eventually joining the nationalist movement in Algeria in the later part of his life. It was during the Algerian War that Fanon wrote "The Wretched of the Earth" which describes the process of decolonization and what that really needs to look like in order for it to be effective.
The Wretched of the Earth (1961)
"For a colonized people the most essential value, because the most concrete, is first and foremost the land: the land which will bring them bread and, above all, dignity."
